Admit it, we have at-least 2-3 cd/dvds that we haven’t labeled yet!! Even though you have lots of media accessories ,some of us might have 2-3 lying around whereas some of us have box full of unlabeled cd/dvds. And the collections keeps on increasing after we burn a new disc without labeling it. A disc without label is like a person without identity and it will present inconvenience for the recipients of your discs to store them and archive them.

Knowing the best way to label your cd/dvd with slick-looking artwork can prove to be just as much of a challenge. You might ask what is the best way to label cd/dvd discs. Well, here is your answer!!

Starting from the basic, here are the different ways of labeling your cd/dvd discs:

Write directly on the disc

Yes you can write directly on the disc and you can ruin the disc when you do that. So, here is how you can write directly on the disc without ruining the disc. Use a Sharpie. Do not use a ballpoint pen or a pencil or a crayon. Writing with a ballpoint pen or pencil can create pressure that is enough to damage the layer that the laser has to scan, making it unreadable.

Whereas, writing with a crayon can let wax transfer to the drive’s head, which will not affect your disc, but your drive useless.

You can use other markers too, but some marker inks can eat into the plastic and may make a disc troublesome or even useless. Sharpie markets a range of markers they offer specifically for use with CD/DVD media, so we’re naming them.

Paper Label

Paper Labels are easy to use and comes in various variety. There are matte and glossy labels and big hole vs. small hole. The only care you need to take is that once you apply the label you will need to rub off the air bubbles immediately. The disadvantage of the paper label is that, no matter if the paper label is glossy or matte, it adds up the thickness of the discs and sometimes that will create problem on slit loaded devices.

Print a label

There are many products that help you to print something on your inkjet printer and stick it onto a disc. One such is Verbatim’s own Verbatim Touch-Less Labeling system. With this labeling system you don’t have to touch the sticky part of the label, you can’t get centering wrong and the label goes down without a wrinkle.

Print Directly on the Disc

There are many printers which allows you to print directly on the disc instead of paper. Printers from Epson, HP, and Canon can print directly onto the special treated discs. Primera is best known for its production duplicators , but they also offer the Bravo II model (PCs or Mac) for simply printing directly onto a disc. It is both the most capable and the most expensive of the three direct disc printers here, with the ability to put gorgeous, full-color labels onto hundreds of discs at a sitting.

Conclusion

I bet you may have ever thought about this many ways to label your disc. If you are short on time, you should use Sharpie marker or use paper label. Whereas if you have time and budget, i would recommend you to print a label for your cd/dvd or directly print on your disc.
